England international Aaron Lennon could be heading towards an exit from Tottenham in the January transfer window after failing to secure a move in the summer. The 27-year-old does not seem to figure in the plans of manager Mauricio Pochettino. Even though he has made three appearances this campaign, the overwhelming interest from neighbours QPR could alter his destination in the next few months. Lennon has been at Tottenham since 2005 and has made close to 300 league appearances for the club during this period. Pochettino, however, has made it clear that he wants to work with a squad of just 25 players including the goalkeeper.
Tottenham have one of the biggest squads in the division and this perhaps could have contributed to the poor start to the season. Pochettino is under pressure after getting just two wins from the opening five matches. Tottenham are also without a win in the last three, a run that has also seen them get defeated at the hands of league strugglers like West Brom. If the Europa League matches are taken into account, then Tottenham are without a win in the last four matches. The honeymoon period for Pochettino could be over before it begins if this poor form continues. Lennon’s sale would bring in around £ 7 million which can be used to strengthen the team elsewhere.
QPR offered a way out for the England international during the summer, but that was not enough time to conclude the deal, as it came on transfer deadline day. QPR are still struggling in the Premier League and have just one win in the campaign so far. This could be a potential stumbling block since it is unlikely that Lennon would want to play in the Championship in case QPR are relegated this campaign, which appears a distinct possibility.
