SPURS MISS OUT

With Arsenal somehow managing to scrape a win in the dying minutes on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur will once again be pushed out of the Champions League spots and may well face a player exodus in the summer.

Whilst the team have definitley progressed under Andre Villas-Boas since he started, he has still struggled to get the team playing with the consistency they needed in order to guarantee a top-4 finish. At one stage this season they were 12 points ahead of Arsenal, but over a dour February and March the Gunners somehow managed to claw the deficit back, and take the fourth spot by just one point. LENNON SET TO RETURN

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has been boosted by the news that midfielder Aaron Lennon could be back in the first-team squad for the match against Wigan during the weekend. Tottenham are currently fifth in the Premier league table and they are battling out with Chelsea and Arsenal for a top four spot. The form of the team has dipped in recent months from the lofty heights they achieved since the turn of the year. One of the reasons attributed towards the poor form has been a lack of Lennon, who has been injured.

Tottenham’s play is largely based around the two wingers – Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon. In the absence of both these players due to various injury problems in recent weeks, their form has dipped of late. However, they have the chance to get back into the top four with a win over relegation threatened Wigan during the weekend. The match will not be easy because Wigan are usually good at home during this stage of the season despite their relegation problems. Due to the fact that Tottenham will be playing ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal this weekend, they will want to get an advantage in the points table to put pressure on their rivals.

“All of our remaining five games are vital. Our destiny is in our hands and will try to get as many points as possible. The Wigan game is a totally different proposition to City last week but just as important.  We have to understand that only the same motivation as playing against the champions will give us the conditions to win this game. Aaron has trained with the team and is back in contention. It’s good to have him back,” said Villas-Boas. Spurs will face Chelsea in the remaining five fixtures at Stamford Bridge.

INTER KEEN ON LENNON

It has been reported that the Italian club Inter Milan are looking at the possibility of signing the Tottenham midfielder Aaron Lennon, who has been in brilliant form this season. There have been a lot of questions asked about the quality of the 25-year-old over the years.

However, he seems to have finally come of age at just the right time in his career. Lennon has been overshadowed by Gareth Bale in the last few seasons, but he has been able to match the Welshman in terms of goalscoring and assisting abilities. Lennon has been one of the main reasons alongside Bale for their impressive form of Tottenham in the last few months. Continue reading “INTER KEEN ON LENNON”

ABBOTT IMPRESSED

The Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott has praised the Tottenham midfielder Aaron Lennon by saying that he is proving to be one of the best buys for Tottenham. The 25-year-old has been having one of his best seasons in English football. Even though he was overshadowed by the Welsh winger Gareth Bale last season, he has managed to perform toe-to-toe with the Welsh winger this season. It has resulted in lavish praise on the midfielder, who was first spotted by the current Carlisle United manager he was the Leeds United youth team coach several seasons ago.

Abbott has said that it did not take more than three seconds for him to see the immense talent within Lennon. However, in the last few years Lennon has been criticised for not being a 90 min player. Abbott, though, is extremely happy to see him become exactly the same this season. The former Tottenham sporting director Frank Arnesen has also spoken in glowing tribute to the player by saying that he has been involved in deals to bring the likes of Ronaldo and Arjen Robben, but Lennon has to be alongside them. Lennon was brought to White Hart Lane for a fee of £ 500,000, which increased to up to £ 1 million depending upon his performances.

“Planting him in London was probably done a year too early. Manchester United and Liverpool wanted him and they are much closer to his family in Leeds. I believe he found it hard work in London because Aaron is a family boy but he got over it. At Leeds I made sure I was always there for Aaron and his family if there were any issues,” said Abbott. “We paid about £500,000 for Aaron. To sign him for that amount was a no-brainer,” said Frank Arnesen.

PARKER BACKS LENNON

The Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker has said that he thinks that the winger Aaron Lennon is one of the main reasons for Tottenham being extremely good in recent weeks. The England winger has always been viewed as the secondary choice to the star winger Gareth Bale. However, the Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has been able to get the best out of the 25-year-old in recent weeks in such a way that he has overshadowed Bale. Parker has also come out and glowing praise of the midfielder by saying that his form has been one of the main reasons for Tottenham doing well in recent weeks.

Lennon was at his imperious best in the 3-1 win over Reading. This victory helped his team move into the third position ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal. Parker has praised Lennon by saying that he has been almost unplayable in the last few weeks. The 31-year-old recently returned to first team action after many months out with an injury. He was given linked with a move to the West London club QPR after they were recently taken over by Harry Redknapp, who was responsible for bringing him to Tottenham. Lennon has always been praised for his incredible pace, but he has combined that with an end product.

“He was at a different level against Reading – not just his raw pace and his threat on and around the ball but his work rate was something very special. I couldn’t think of anything worse if I was a full-back than him running at me. He probably could have set up another couple if it had fallen for the right people. Gareth is fantastic and sometimes gets all the headlines but ‘Azzer’ [Lennon] has been key to that as well,” said Parker. Tottenham have managed to go on an unbeaten run since the Everton defeat.
